Think of it this way. Potentially, your site can be viewed by anyone in the world sitting in front of a computer connected to the internet. A website is an advertisement of your business on a world wide stage. How confident would you feel about Bill Gates finding your company on the internet and arriving at a website designed by your next door neighbor's teenage son? Poor layout with ill defined navigation and low quality graphics will decrease consumer confidence in your business.
If you don't capture the attention of your visitor within the first 10 seconds of their arrival at your website, you have lost them. This is a fact. An attractive layout with easy to use navigation and well written content will go a long way toward enticing your visitors to spend time at your site. You are also more likely to get repeat visitors, which can translate to an increase in sales.
A well designed site is much more flexible than a poorly designed one. If, for example, your company adds a new line of products, a well planned layout should be able to easily assimilate the addition. This means less cost for your company each time you need to make a major change to your site.

Research your competition. Read all about your rival businesses online, in newspapers, magazines. Know what you are up against online.
Find some websites you admire and give the links to your web team. These sites do not necessarily have to be connected in any way with your business. They can be web pages whose colors, fonts, graphics and overall design you feel drawn to.
Check the progress on your site regularly. We give our clients a URL they can visit to view their site while it is under construction
It is important to establish early on the basic layout of your site, color scheme, typography etc. These are elements which are difficult and time consuming to change at a later stage.
Be patient. A lot of thought goes into a well built website.
Will my site look good on all computers?
Most computers, is all you can hope for with any web design. Designers can ensure your site looks great on PCs and Macs using IE, Netscape Navigator, and AOL and then you have covered at least 98% of your intended audience
